Default Can't totally Spot Reduce w/ Exercise - 08-23-2007, 05:29 PM

Hey Buddy,

Great Exercise's for burning that stubborn bodyfat is any kind of ab-Exercise (Leg lift, crunches, etc.) But just because you are performing ab exercises doesnt mean that you are going to burn body fat at your waistline. Technically you can't really spot reduce bodyfat on certain areas of the body. Doing abs a lot will strengthen your abdominal muscles therefore when you LOSE the bodyfat, your abs will show better. The biggest part of losing that body fat is through Diet, for long periods of time. Eating clean on a diet for a long period is important because your metabolism will speed faster and faster and with the perfect macronutrient Ratio's (Carbs,Protein & Fats) that will put your body in a "Fat-burning" State. Cardio and some weight-training is also important for burning fat, It's an overall lifestyle change that starts and Stays with Diet!

I have a lot of belly fat to lose too. I hear all the time that dairy helps in losing belly fat, but I don't understand how that works. Can you explain?

Hey Maryea, there are some truth behind some dairy foods that can HELP burn stored belly fat. The whole concept is this.....one food or supplement cannot burn just stored belly fat. It is the collective diet for an entire day, day in and day out that will help you use stored bodyfat as fuel and therefore if you are active as well your body will use that stored bodyfat as an energy source. Now if your a person that tends to have the majority of your bodyfat around the waistline region, then as your body starts to lose bodyfat it will lose bodyfat from everywhere, but you will lose a little more from the source area that has more fat. So there is no way to just spot reduce one area of the body to lose fat.....it comes off everywhere , but if you have an area with a little more fat , it will come off there a little faster to compensate.

-hope this helps

Default Fight Stress to ward off belly fat - 10-30-2007, 10:47 AM

You probably have heard this before but oh it's so worth repeating. I lost 12 lbs on a very healthy eating plan starting with a detox, soups , salads, fruits and veggies - RAW and lots of daily short, bits of walking, leg squats etc all thru-out the day.
But I do notice that when my stress levels rise that my waistline takes the brunt.
It's the chemical Cortizol! So remember to take time out for deep breathing and relaxation walks or dance to some music. Fight the stress factor mo matter what!

Default Cortisol......good point! - 10-30-2007, 01:18 PM

Cortisol is a bad hormone that the body produces, due to different stresses in life (Depression Stress, overall stress, too much exercise, irregular Sleeping patterns, not enough sleep, etc.) If Cortisol levels are high, no matter how much you exercise, it won't matter! High Cortisol tends to hold more butt and belly fat as well. Unfortunately you cannot have your cortisol levels tested at your local physician. You just have to look at the symptoms that i listed above and see if you are one of those people. Our diets at smartdiets.com have been designed to fight high cortisol levels through the use of nutrition. We will also have supplement guides in the future that will help aid in weight-loss and attack cortisol levels. I already have an article on this forum about one cortisol attacking supplement (Vitamin C) feel free to read that post!
